A Favorite Winter Breakfast

IMG_7312.JPG

Mmmm. There’s nothing like a warm, creamy, hot breakfast on an icy, bone-chilling morning on the farm. Here’s one of my all-time favorite nourishing winter breakfasts that I’ve been making since our days in Dallas: Cream of Buckwheat Bowl with Cinnamon Apples.

Buckwheat is full of antioxidants and naturally gluten-free. 🤍

1️⃣Slice apple thinly and sauté in butter or coconut oil with sprinkle of cinnamon and ginger until tender and until your entire house smells amazing.

2️⃣Make Cream of Buckwheat according to package instructions (Pocono brand by @thebirkettmills is our fave!).

3️⃣Once cream of buckwheat is made, put it into a bowl and stir in grass-fed butter (could sub coconut milk, milk, cream).

4️⃣Add drizzle of raw local honey and top with cinnamon apples.

5️⃣Other topping ideas...

  • Fried pasture-raised eggs

  • Jam

  • Toasted pecans or walnuts

  • Organic nut butter

  • Shredded coconut

  • Raisins

  • Chopped dates

  • Flax seeds

  • Hemp seeds

  • Bananas

  • Berries

  • Avocados

  • Cacao nibs or dark chocolate chips

Eaten in a favorite pottery bowl from Mud Dabbers in Balsam, NC.

Pairs well with a frothy tea or coffee latté - I’ve got you covered on that HERE.

Try it, and let me know what you think!
